Bruce Hanson Announces Plans to Run for Hudson School Board

The filing period is well underway and a second person has announced intentions for running for a seat on the Hudson School District Board of Education after Jamie Johnson made his announcement last month.

Bruce Hanson, a vice president at  RR Donnelley & Sons with a sales background, lives in Houlton and has two children who attend school in the district.

"With some of the challenges we've been faced with lately, particularly in the referendum not going through to fruition because of rezone, I'm looking to bring some new ideas and hopefully get more engaged and do something about some of the challenges," Hanson said. "With a 10-year-old and a 7-year-old at home here I'm obviously real interested in making sure that we continue to have the great schools and education system we have in the Hudson area. I'm hopeful that continues and I want to be a part of it by getting us on a good track."

Candidates can file declarations of candidacy and circulate petitions until filing paperwork is due at 5 p.m. on Jan. 2. If a primary election is required, it will be held Feb. 19. The general election will be held on April 2.

Hanson issued the following statement:

Bruce Hanson of Houlton has announced he intends to file for candidacy for Hudson School Board for the election in April 2013.  He is a current member and co-chair of Community Service with the Hudson Daybreak Rotary Club and has served as chair for the local Junior Achievement Board for the Hudson area schools for the past 3 years.  In addition to his involvement with Rotary and JA locally, he currently sits on the Junior Achievement of the Upper Midwest Board and is on the Board of Trustees at Family of Christ Lutheran Church in Houlton.

"Our family has really enjoyed becoming a part of this community and getting more involved through many areas of service.  The challenges facing our community and school district at this time are significant and require difficult analysis and decisions.  I am hopeful to get involved and keep our community and education system advancing in a positive direction."

Hanson is a Vice President with RR Donnelley & Sons Inc and has worked with them for 16 years.  Bruce and his wife Sarah have two children in Houlton Elementary and have lived in the Hudson School District for 6 years.
