Bridget O'Meara, Suzanne Hambleton, Alexandra Stoehr, Amber Erickson and several other parents of students are looking into the feasibility of creating a grocery co-op in downtown Hudson. The group is working with UW-River Falls students on a business plan, and has created a survey to gather more information.
"We want healthy, sustainably produced, local foods for our families," O'Meara said. "We want to be able to support local farmers and businesses in our communities, and we want to walk there."
The group is looking at spaces in the downtown area, and location is a key factor. Since an article about the group's plans was published in the Pioneer Press on Thursday morning, the group has gotten a lot of positive feedback and responses to its survey.
"We're putting our survey out there just so we can know what exactly it is that the community wants," Stoehr said. "It will be community-owned, so we want to make sure what our community is dictating that we're able to provide."
