Semi Truck Carrying Sugar Fully Engulfed in Flames on I-94

A semi truck carrying sugar caught fire on I-94 Friday morning, fully engulfing the vehicle.

JACKSON COUNTY, WI β€” A semi truck carrying sugar caught fire on I-94 Friday morning, fully engulfing the vehicle.

On April 21, 2017 at 5:11am, the WI State Patrol Eau Claire Post received a call of a semi tractor/trailer unit on fire on I-94 westbound in Jackson County. A State Trooper was dispatched and arrived on scene at 5:19am and found a semi tractor and trailer were engulfed in flames.

The driver and passenger were both out of the semi unit and not injured. The load consisted of bags of sugar. The unit was partially in the right westbound traffic lane, but westbound vehicles were able to utilize the left lane to get by the scene. The Hixton Fire Department arrived on scene and extinguished the fire.

The Jackson County Highway Department set up a work zone due to the closure of the right westbound lane while crews off-loaded the semi trailer and worked to clear the semi unit and debris. The left lane was opened and the scene was cleared at 12:08pm.
