Olapo Puts Wrestling Team on His Shoulders

It was a complete team effort Tuesday night, but it came down to one match to secure a spot in the team WIAA State Wrestling Tournament.

Olapo Puts Wrestling Team on His Shoulders

It came down to one match last night for the Menomonee Falls wrestling team.

One match. One win. And the Indians were on to state.

Fortunately, Falls senior Ayoola Olapo dons the burgundy and gray.

The Indians were trailing Wauwatosa 25-27 as the teams headed into the final match of the night in the WIAA Division 1 Sectional Championship Tuesday night at Arrowhead High School. Olapo (42-2), ranked 4th in the state in his weight group, had been dominating the mats all season.

Olapo defeated Wauwatosa junior Matt Miller in 21-6 technical fall to seal the team victory 30-25. The Indians are now on to the state tournament in Madison. They’ll face Bay Port at 7 p.m. March 1 in the University of Wisconsin Fieldhouse.

Menomonee Falls sped to a 21-9 lead during the dual meet, but Wauwatosa came storming back to set up the dramatic finish. The Indians were led to victory with wins by:

  • Matt Aili (decision)
  • Trayvon Handy (pin)
  • Aaron Daly (pin)
  • Billy Holz (pin)
  • Jake Fuiten (major decision)
  • Ayoola Olapo (technical fall)
