Charity Begins at Home

There are so many places to share the blessings of the season, and the best part is that most of those are right in your own back yard. Here's a guide that no doubt will grow - feel free to add your own!

Jerome Drugs - in their entry space is a giving tree for ' Home Instead' seniors. This one's a bit urgent, as the final donations are due Dec. 5 for distribution on Dec. 12 and 13.

Muskego Moose Lodge - also has a 'senior' Santa tree, but other opportunities are available to help bring a Merry Christmas to local families. Deadline for the senior tree is the same as Jerome Drugs, but other opportunities give you a little more time. Stop in for more information.

Muskego Regency - holding a toy drive this month as well on behalf of the Marine Corps Toys for Tots, in its 65th year through Dec. 7. For more information, call 262-679-0888.

Edward Jones/Katie Orvis - Donations of food, cash and gift items are being accepted during regular business hours for "Christmas with the Vets," a yearly event spearheaded by Muskego veteran Jeff 'Doc' Dentice. Deadline is Friday, Dec. 14. Need more details? Check out the article on Doc, and what's needed!

Muskego Lions Club - The Lion's collected and distributed boxes of Thanksgiving meals, and will be looking to do the same for 32 families for Christmas. Deadline is Dec. 21.

Acres of Hope and Aspirations - the list of items needed to help care for the creatures of rehab, which are instrumental in recovery for the brain injury patients that come to this unique and beautiful facility in Muskego, is long and varied. Visit their website or view the attached pics to see what's on it. No deadline, as the need is ongoing all throughout the year.

Frenz Designing Hair & Nails - Kicked off on Nov. 30, the salon is having a 50/50 raffle for the Muskego Food Pantry. Stop in to purchase a ticket: 1 for $2, 3 for $5, and if you're a winner when they pull the name on Dec. 21, you will split the jackpot with the pantry.

Culvers - participating in 'Kids 2 Kids Christmas' along with Kapco Metal Stamping. Bring your unwrapped and new toys to the collection box up until Dec. 15.

Tres Locos - while they have decided to cancel their Christmas Party this year, they're doing so in order to put a focus on five local families in need. Stop in to see how you can help.

DeWinter Eye Care - is holding a toy drive as well; bring in unwrapped gifts; for more information, stop in or call 262-679-1420

St. Leonard's Catholic Church - also has about 800 names representing hundreds of families locally and elsewhere; visit the parish office if you'd like to take a name from their tree; many of the requests are for simple items, like postage stamps, socks and other personal items. Deadline is the weekend of Dec. 16.

If you've seen other opportunities to give at local businesses or through local organizations, please share them with us in the comments below and we'll update this list!
