The Finance Committee will talk with offenders of liquor licenses during Tuesday night's meetings at City Hall.

Businesses in Trouble for Underage Liquor Sales

A full slate of meetings at City Hall include the following, beginning at 6 p.m. Tuesday:

Finance Committee (Alderman's Room): Several businesses were cited in December for violating their liquor licenses by selling alcohol to underage customers. Chief Craig Moser has requested that representatives from each of the businesses, which include Aldi's, Denoon Saloon and Jetz Convenience Center, appear before the committee to discuss the incidents.

In each of the cases, police reports state that underage "decoys" were asked for their identification. However the birthdates listed on their IDs would have revealed that they were still not old enough to purchase alcohol if they were read correctly.

Big Muskego Lake District, 6:30 p.m. (Muskego Room):

  • Greg Burmeister will give an update on the current condition of the Big Lake and Bass' Bay.
  • Tom Zagar, conservation coordinator, will also provide an update on water levels, plant growth, fish, and wildlife.
  • Zagar will also provide an update of a recent purchase by the DNR in the Big Muskego Lake Wildlife Area.
  • Looking ahead to spring and summer, an authorization for the mayor to sign an agreement with Marine Biochemists to control invasive aquatic plants will be proposed, and to help make that happen, the district will also consider the authorization for the mayor to apply for a DNR Permit ($895) to Control Nuisance Aquatic Plants in 2013

Common Council

  • Two public hearings will precede the formal council meeting. The first involves the rezoning of an island on Little Muskego Lake to more accurately reflect the parts of the island that are truly wetlands. The second is the extension of the sanitary sewer district to include a new property located on Woods Road that was part of a land division.
  • Owners of the historic property formerly known as the Wade House have applied for a grant through the Janesville Road Building and Grant Program. They hope to use the funding to assist with improvements to the facade, especially as planned widening of Janesville Road will make it even more visible to the community. 
  • The council will formally approve the revised fireworks ordinance, after they met as the Committe of the Whole to consider a fireworks referendum. The new ordinance has new "teeth," which many on the council felt should be given a chance to take effect before putting it on the ballot for voters to decide whether permits should continue to be issued for personal fireworks.
