MPD Recap: National Night Out, A New Officer, and Festival Advice

Lt. Dave Constantineau says thanks for another successful, but wet National Night Out, welcomes a new officer and shares some advice on 'festing' safely.

MPD Recap: National Night Out, A New Officer, and Festival Advice

From the desk of Lt. Dave Constantineau, a few notes of thanks, welcome and advice on the upcoming festival:

National Night Out
Despite Mother Nature’s best efforts, Muskego’s 5th Annual National Night Out was another big, albeit damp, success! I really think all the positive energy we generated worked to push all the rain out of the area. We even had a flyover by some fighter jets! I told everyone I arranged the flyover but, truth be told, I think they were practicing for last week’s air show. In any event, we had a great time. The Lions Club gave away 30 bicycles and a few hundred bike helmets; the fire department had some great demonstrations again this year; The Gleason’s gave us more fantastic live music; kids got their faces painted and free t-shirts; and lots of food and fun. Thanks Muskego, for coming out and supporting our community. I can’t wait to see you all again next year!

A New Addition

I am proud to announce a new addition to our department. Officer Anthony Wagner was sworn in as our newest officer on August 7th. Officer Wagner is a Milwaukee native, with a long history of family service. His father and grandfather were both Milwaukee Police officers. Please join us in welcoming Officer Wagner, and wishing him a long and productive career with Muskego PD.

Muskego Community Festival will require extra awareness of roads, traffic
Just a reminder that the Muskego Community Festival will be August 23-26 this year, at Veteran’s Memorial Park. As everyone who lives in Muskego knows, this is one of the best festivals in the Milwaukee metro area, and has attracted huge crowds in the past. And even with the road construction, the parade will go off as always at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday the 26th. So, in order to make sure we don’t have a tragedy, or you don’t end up frustrated and unable to get to where you want to go, let’s all plan ahead.

If you are driving in the area of Veteran’s Park, next to the police department, during the festival, slow down and keep your eyes open. There will be a lot of pedestrian traffic on Racine Ave., along with a lot of parked cars on the side of the road. This can be a recipe for disaster. Assume a pedestrian is going to step out in front of you, and drive accordingly.

The parade will run west on Janesville Rd. from Lannon Dr., before heading south on Racine Ave. If you live in the area, and your only route out is Janesville Road, make sure you get out before 11:00am on Sunday, or you will be watching the parade whether you want to or not.

And most importantly, if you are going to enjoy the festival, have a designated driver. We want to see you at the festival next year, too.
