Council Favors Land Swaps For Falk Park Expansion

The plan, though not finalized, would give Milwaukee County 75 acres for expansion of Falk Park and Northwestern Mutual 50 acres for development.

Council Favors Land Swaps For Falk Park Expansion

The Oak Creek Common Council unanimously approved a re-configuration of land near 20th Street and Drexel Avenue for the planned expansion of Milwaukee County's Falk Park.

The county and Northwestern Mutual have proposed land exchanges in which the county would get 75 acres, much of it south of Drexel Avenue, and Northwestern Mutual 50 acres near the future Drexel Interchange.

The Milwaukee County Parks Department wants to preserve those lands and maintain some of the last remaining wetlands in the county.

Northwestern Mutual, meanwhile, would get lands that can be more easily developed, although the company says it has no immediate development plans.

A Northwestern Mutual representative the swaps will help protect the natural beauty of the area.

The council approved nine certified survey maps that accommodate the changes. The proposal still needs a few more approvals, including from the Department of Natural Resources.
