Olson, Stevenson Left Lasting Impact on Oak Creek

Two longtime Oak Creek residents who had a significant impact on the early history of the city passed away this month, as Mayor Steve Scaffidi noted in his Mayor's Message on the city's website.

Thomas Stevenson Jr., who died Jan. 10 at the age of 85, was the original band director at Oak Creek High School and wrote the school song.

After his retirement in 1988, he played and directed the Wilson Knights Band, the Ray Nueman Band and the Shrine Band.

See Stevenson's obituary here.

Arthur H. Olson, Jr., 82, died Jan. 5. Olson became business administrator of the Oak Creek-Franklin School District in 1959 and oversaw the building of the high school and several elementary schools.

He was the 1988 Oak Creek Citizen of the Year and was very active in the community, including some 40 years with the Kiwanis Club.
