An Amtrak train struck and killed a 39-year-old man near the Puetz Road crossing in Oak Creek Thursday night.

The driver of the train told police he saw the man walk onto the tracks, then turn toward the train with his hands in his pockets and wait, according to the logbook.

The driver said he barely had enough time to pull the emergency brake and sound the horn before the train struck the man about 9:20 p.m., according to the logbook.

Police said the man was bipolar, suffered from medical conditions and depressed about a court case. According to online court records, the man was scheduled to be sentenced today in a child pornography case.
