Proposed Meijer Store Goes To Public Hearings

A condition-use permit for the proposed 200,000-square-foot Meijer store at Highways K and 164 will be the topic of a public hearing to be held Wednesday.

A second hearing, which will be held at the Sussex Community Center, will be held on changes to the village's land-use map to allow for the store to be built.

The hearings are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.

The store, which plans to hire 200 to 250 employees, will be about 60 percent grocery and also consist of retail, a gas station, a garden center and pharmacy. The store plans to be open 24 hours a day.

Late last month, the board approved changing the village's zoning to allow for retail to be 250,000 square feet rather than the 125,000 square feet maximum previously allowed by law.
