A family living in a four-unit apartment building on Dixie Drive was displaced for the evening when a fire broke out in a bedroom around 5 p.m. Sunday.

“We immediately made aggressive interior attack knocking down the fire, keeping it contained to the area of origin,” said Waukesha Fire Department Battalion Chief Joe Hoffman.

The occupants of the apartment building were given shelter in a city bus while fire crews were on scene. The people living in the three units not affected by the fire will be allowed to return to their apartment.

The American Red Cross was called to the scene to assist the displaced family.

The fire remains under investigation and a damage estimate was not immediately available.
