A 43-year-old Wauwatosa man is facing charges after he allegedly stole more than $1,700 worth of merchandise while working at a Franklin department store.
Kamanzi M. Ntaganda was charged Friday in Milwaukee County Circuit Court with one count of theft. If convicted, he faces up to nine months in prison and $10,000 in fines.
According to the criminal complaint:
Between April 27 and July 9, Ntaganda worked the overnight shift at the Target store at 7800 S. Lovers Lane, when a security officer noticed items going missing. The officer watched surveillance video footage from the times Ntaganda was working and saw him stealing items from the store.
Ntaganda admitted taking iPods, cell phones, a bicycle, shoes and soda from the store while working and agreed to pay back Target for the thefts. The total value of the items was estimated at $1,743 retail.
On Friday, Ntaganda was at the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s office. Asked when he wanted to make his intake appearance, the complaint says, he asked why he would need to make an appearance or have a lawyer since he isn’t planning to contest the charges and plans to pay back the store.
However, he will have to make an appearance in court Wednesday. That's just the way it's done.
