Woman Robbed at Gunpoint in North Tosa Bus Shelter

A Milwaukee woman says she was robbed at gunpoint in broad daylight Thursday afternoon in a north side bus shelter, according to police reports.

At 1:40 p.m. Thursday, Wauwatosa police were called to take charge of a complaint of armed robbery. The Milwaukee woman had called Milwaukee police about 20 minutes earlier to report she had been robbed at gunpoint at the bus shelter on the northwest corner of North 92nd and West Congress streets.

After determining that the shelter is actually on the Wauwatosa side of city lines, Milwaukee police turned over the investigation.

The woman said she had gotten off another bus and was sitting in the shelter, waiting for transfer while talking on her iPhone. She told officers she saw a man crossing 92nd from an apartment building on the east side, and she was immediately suspicious because it was cold but he was wearing shorts. He was also wearing a sweatshirt, and he put the hood up as he approached.

She ended her phone call as he walked up to her, she said, and when he was right in front of her, he pulled a large black revolver from his pants pocket and pointed it at her chest. He said, “Give me your phone, give me your iPhone,” she told officers, and she, in fear for her life, handed it over.

She said the robber appeared very nervous, and the gun was shaking. As soon as he had the phone, he turned and jogged back across 92nd Street and disappeared into an alley between two apartment buildings.

The victim flagged down a passing driver who let her use his phone to call police. She described the suspect as black, probably 18 years old, 5-feet-5-inches tall, 150 to 160 pounds with a slender build, wearing a red hooded sweatshirt with no lettering, black basketball shorts and black tennis shoes. She said he had a distinctive birthmark and was certain she could identify him if she saw him again.
