Police Find Marijuana, Alcohol in Teenager's Car

A 16-year-old and his three friends received citations for intoxicants early Saturday morning. Later that night, an 18-year-old is cited for marijuana.

Police Find Marijuana, Alcohol in Teenager's Car

A 16-year-old Whitefish Bay boy had marijuana and a pipe in the car when he was pulled over by Whitefish Bay police early Saturday morning.

The officer noticed the vehicle was driving without headlights when it passed by his patrol car near Lake Drive and Silver Spring Drive at 1:16 a.m. Saturday. The officer pulled the vehicle over on Lake Drive at School Road, and noticed the driver had three friends in the car and a Miller High Life beer can in the center console.

The driver said the beer can, which was mostly empty, belonged to the 17-year-old Fox Point boy sleeping in the passenger seat. The Fox Point boy, along with an 18-year-old Whitefish Bay man and an 18-year-old Thiensville woman in the backseat, were cited for underage drinking.

Police determined the driver had not been drinking, but decided to search his vehicle, based on finding the beer can and other alcohol containers in plain view.

In the vehicle search, police found two bottles containing alcohol under the front passenger seat. Inside of a backpack, officers found a sunglass case containing a marijuana pipe and a lighter, an Altoids mint tin containing a marijuana joint and a 5-Hour Energy shot mixed with alcohol.

Police also found an Altoids mint tin containing 27 white pills. The boy said the white pills in the Altoids container were only mints, but police sent them to the State Crime Lab for further testing.

The driver was issued citations for operating without headlights, minor transporting intoxicants and violating the restrictions of his graduated drivers license.

In a separate but similar case later that day:

  • An 18-year-old Milwaukee man was cited for possession of marijuana. He was pulled over at 9:43 p.m. Saturday in the 5200 block of Lake Drive for failing to stop at a stop sign.
