Alabama Jail Peanut Butter Escape: Manhunt Underway For Last Of 12 Inmates

Inmates used peanut butter to change the numbers above a door and tricked a new worker into opening a door leading outside, officials said.

JASPER, AL — The last of 12 inmates who escaped a county jail in Alabama in a scheme involving peanut butter remains on the loose.

A manhunt continued Tuesday for Bradley Andrew Kilpatrick, 24, of Cordova, sheriff's officials said. Kilpatrick was being held in the Walker County jail on marijuana and drug paraphernalia charges when he and 11 other inmates fled Sunday night.

Inmates used peanut butter to change the numbers above a door and trick a new employee into opening another door that led outside, Sheriff James Underwood said. The inmates then used their orange jail uniforms and blankets to climb over a fence topped with razor wire. The sheriff described the tricked worker as being young.

Eleven of the inmates have since been recaptured. Kilpatrick remains on the loose.
