BIRMINGHAM, AL — A tropical weather system out of the Bahamas that Thursday was expected to affect Alabama has changed course and appears will keep the state dry this weekend. Instead of rain, the state will continue to see dry, hot weather throughout the weekend.

The system is expected to become a tropical storm Friday, and will hit Florida and the east coast over the weekend. The National Hurricane Center said heavy rainfall and flash flooding is possible for Florida, Georgia and South Carolina.

Meteorologist James Spann said via Twitter Friday morning that the state would remain on the dry side of the storm.
