Athens woman files civil rights suit against LCSO deputy over alleged 1st, 4th Amendment violations (enewscourier.com) — An Athens woman has filed a federal civil-rights lawsuit against a Limestone County sheriff's deputy, claiming he forced his way into her home without a warrant and arrested her without cause after a 2025 missing-dog call. The obstruction charge against her was dismissed this June, and she now alleges violations of her First and Fourth Amendment rights in U.S. District Court.
2. Man charged with murder in domestic-related Athens homicide (waff.com) — Athens police have charged a man with capital murder after finding 44-year-old Michelle Turner dead in her bedroom at Fifth Avenue Apartments early Monday. Officers say the suspect, her ex-boyfriend, was arrested in Decatur and brought back to Athens, with local and county agencies assisting the investigation.
3. New pedal desk powers learning in motion for Athens Intermediate students (enewscourier.com) — Students at Athens Intermediate School now have a new pedal desk, funded by a $1,000 Athens City Schools Foundation grant, to keep them moving while they learn. The foundation is investing $18,000 in Athens classrooms this year, backing creative projects and programs that give local teachers more tools to engage kids.
4. 'Michelle was always kind': Coworkers remember Athens homicide victim (waff.com) — Athens residents are mourning 44-year-old Michelle Turner, found dead in her Fifth Avenue Apartments home, while her ex-boyfriend faces a capital murder charge. Coworkers at the Ardmore Quik Mart are raising money for her children and encouraging anyone facing domestic violence in Athens to seek help from available resources and supportive neighbors.
