New synthetic opioid Cychlorphine reported near college campuses (wtvm.com) — Auburn residents are being warned about cychlorphine, an extremely potent synthetic opioid rumored to be circulating in Southern college towns and discussed by sources on the Auburn University campus. The drug can be mixed into common party substances, doesn't show up on fentanyl test strips, and may require multiple Narcan doses, so experts urge calling 911 immediately if overdose is suspected.
2. Auburn sets new marks for enrollment, student success (opelikaobserver.com) — Record enrollment at Auburn University this fall means more students, higher retention, and stronger job outcomes tied closely to Auburn and Alabama's workforce. With nearly 36,000 students and rising graduation rates, more graduates are staying in-state, feeding local employers and deepening the university's role in the Auburn community and across Alabama.
3. Auburn University's STEM + Ag Complex Drives Interdisciplinary Collaboration (tradelineinc.com) — Auburn University has opened its new STEM + Agricultural Sciences Complex, a $224 million facility in Auburn that brings multiple science and agriculture departments under one roof. The 265,000-square-foot building emphasizes cutting-edge labs, collaborative spaces, and sustainable design, positioning the campus for expanded research and teaching that can attract more students, faculty, and investment to the area.
4. Auburn-Opelika Tourism's Anthony Terling named Soul of The South finalist (opelikaobserver.com) — Auburn-Opelika Tourism's sports development director, Anthony Terling, has been named a 2026 Soul of the South finalist for his philanthropic work supporting families facing rare diseases. He and his wife Lindsey created the Austin 1st Foundation in memory of their son, turning their experience into statewide advocacy, awareness, and support for other Alabama families navigating ultra-rare conditions.
