The preserve features a nature center with live native snakes and raptors, a dramatic quarry, and well-marked routes for all abilities, making it an easy, fee-based day trip for local hikers and families.
   

• Federal Reserve Bars Two Former Bank Employees Over Misappropriation of Customer Funds (everybodylovesyourmoney.com) — A former Regions Bank employee in Birmingham has been barred from the banking industry after a Federal Reserve action over misappropriated customer funds, alongside a similar case in South Carolina. Regulators stress these are individual misconduct cases, not accusations against the banks themselves, and urge customers everywhere to monitor accounts closely and report suspicious transactions quickly.
   

• Unemployment rate drops in Alabama's top metro areas (thebamabuzz.com) — Birmingham's unemployment rate dipped slightly to 3.6% in July, even as Alabama's overall seasonally adjusted rate ticked up to 3.4%. All 12 metro areas, including Birmingham, saw month-to-month improvement, though jobless rates remain higher than a year ago and the state's labor force participation still trails the national average.
