📰 News we're reading

• People living in Willows Apartments forced to move after complex considered unfit to live in (wbrc.com) — Residents of the Willows Apartments in Hoover are being told to move out by September 20 after new management and a court-appointed receiver deemed the complex unfit for occupancy. Hoover's code enforcement had already documented trash, broken glass, and absent management, and the city says the shutdown decision ultimately came from the new owners, who are offering limited relocation assistance.

• Birmingham-filmed movie 'The Rivals of Amiziah King' grosses over $1M in opening weekend (bhamnow.com) — Hoover gets a small but notable cameo in the new Matthew McConaughey thriller, which filmed scenes at Oakmont-Chapel Presbyterian Church and other Birmingham-area spots before grossing over $1 million opening weekend. The production pumped about $10 million into the metro economy and hired dozens of local crew and extras, with showings nearby at AMC Summit 16, AMC Vestavia Hills, and Sidewalk Cinema.
