Woman beat 70-year-old to death in Hoover pool over missing phone, prosecutor says: 'There was no remorse' (al.com) — Hoover residents are learning more about a deadly confrontation at the Apex Hoover apartments pool, where a 70-year-old woman died after an alleged assault by a friend. Testimony from Hoover police and prosecutors described a prolonged beating, prior disputes over a missing phone, and the suspect's reported lack of remorse, as a Jefferson County judge ordered her held without bond and sent the case to a grand jury.
4. Man arrested in connection with vehicle fire, attempted murder investigation in Midfield (wvtm13.com) — A Birmingham man was arrested at his job in Hoover after Midfield police accused him of setting a vehicle on fire while someone was inside, leading to attempted murder and other felony charges. Hoover's Specialized Response Team helped make the arrest without incident, and investigators are still seeking tips as they continue the case.
5. Celebrate the Family Expo returns to Hoover for seventh year (hooversun.com) — Families in Hoover can head to the Finley Center at the Hoover Met Complex for a free Celebrate the Family Expo packed with kids' activities, live music, and giveaways. Local chefs will offer cooking demos and samples, while exhibitors share resources to support families' physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being, making it an easy, no-cost outing for all ages.
