Today's riddle: What do you call a belt that is made of watches? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Bluff Park Art Show Canceled; Organizers Cite Weather (abc3340.com) — Hoover's Bluff Park residents will miss the 63rd Annual Bluff Park Art Show this weekend after organizers canceled the event due to expected severe weather. The Bluff Park Art Association said safety for artists, vendors, volunteers and visitors drove the decision and promised more updates online as they look ahead to next year's show.
2. Hoover expects to spend $11.2M on residential garbage service as costs rise (abc3340.com) — Hoover plans to spend about $11.2 million on residential garbage service in fiscal 2027, yet residents still won't see a separate garbage fee. Instead, the city will cover rising fuel and inflation-driven costs from its General Fund, effectively subsidizing service by roughly $63 per home while it evaluates, but has not proposed, any future service changes.
3. Bluff Park residents press Hoover for Hawksbury Lane sidewalk, citing child safety (abc3340.com) — Hoover parents in Bluff Park are pushing the city to fund long-requested sidewalks along Hawksbury Lane, saying kids walk a narrow, speeding-prone road with no safe pedestrian space. City officials acknowledge the concern but note the project missed funding in the 2027 budget, with capital dollars instead going to sidewalk maintenance and only 36% of requests approved overall.
4. Taste of Hoover returns Oct. 15 to Aldridge Gardens (hooversun.com) — Hoover residents can sample dozens of local restaurants and caterers at Taste of Hoover on Thursday, Oct. 15, from 5-8 p.m. at Aldridge Gardens on Lorna Road. With live music, an outdoor garden-party atmosphere, and one ticket covering unlimited tastings, organizers expect another sellout, so locals are encouraged to buy tickets early and use the free shuttle from the Trader Joe's lot.
5. 13 car shows happening across Greater Birmingham (bhamnow.com) — Hoover car fans have several chances this month to show off their rides or just wander among classics, hot rods and exotics, including the first-Saturday cruise-in at Hoover Tactical. The roundup also highlights nearby events in Leeds, Moody, Springville and Birmingham, giving you plenty of weekend options if you love engines, coffee and community meetups.
