Huntsville saw fewer traffic fatalities during this year's Summer Slowdown (whnt.com) β€” Huntsville drivers saw a safer summer this year, with police reporting just two traffic fatalities during the May 21–July 31 Summer Slowdown, down from eight last year. Officers issued more than 3,200 citations and 1,300 warnings, many for speeding, and Chief Kirk Giles says traffic safety enforcement will remain a priority on city roads.

New multiuse park approved for Madison (whnt.com) β€” A new 23-acre multiuse park is coming to Madison's fast-growing western corridor, just south of Huntsville Brownsferry Road near Madison Farms. Plans call for soccer fields, a playground, pavilions, a dog park and open green space, and city leaders are even seeking a donor to secure naming rights for the park.

'Lot of heartbreak': Vigil honors Madison County teen killed in hit-and-run (whnt.com) β€” Family and friends from Huntsville, Madison, and Decatur gathered at Stoner Park to remember 16-year-old Sparkman High student Thomas Butler Jr., killed in a hit-and-run on Capshaw Road. His mother is urging anyone with information about the SUV's driver to contact ALEA's Decatur Highway Patrol Post so the family can get answers and justice.

Social media reacts to Columbia snapping 101-game high school football losing streak (al.com) β€” Columbia High finally snapped its 101-game losing streak with a 41-14 win over Greensboro at Huntsville's Milton Frank Stadium, drawing attention from across the country. Players, coaches and fans flooded social media with celebrations as second-year coach Sammie Coates praised the school community's support and the team's persistence.

Affidavit: "No Physical Evidence" Driver Braked Before Hitting, Killing Milligan Cyclists (outsideonline.com) β€” A deadly training-ride crash in Tennessee killed Milligan University cyclist Brayden Rogers, a Huntsville native and 2025 Buckhorn High graduate, along with teammate Haylan Engdahl. Court documents say the driver showed no physical signs of braking, while several injured cyclists remain hospitalized as the national cycling community rallies around the victims' families.
