1. 'We're here because we won': Flint River residents celebrate after Integra Water withdraws permit (waff.com) — Residents along the Flint River north of Huntsville just won a major fight, as Integra Water withdrew its permit request for a controversial wastewater plant on Winchester Road in New Market. After more than a year of organizing, lawsuits, and public pressure, neighbors say they'll keep pushing to protect the river and plan to celebrate at Friday night's Buckhorn High football game.
2. U.S. Space Command celebrates move to Alabama (homelandprepnews.com) — U.S. Space Command's move from Colorado to Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville is rapidly ramping up, with more than 140 personnel already assigned and plans for hundreds more by year's end. Leaders say Huntsville-based staff are increasingly handling core mission and intelligence work, while the command offers incentives and coordinates with Redstone Garrison to build out additional workspace and long‑term facilities.
3. Huntsville-based diagnostic testing lab plans to close, affecting over 50 employees (whnt.com) — A Huntsville-based diagnostic testing lab, Eurofins Diatherix Laboratories, will close starting October 31, putting about 55 local employees out of work, according to a state WARN notice. The company operates two lab locations in Huntsville and provides a wide range of diagnostic testing services to area hospitals and physicians, making this shutdown significant for both workers and local healthcare providers.
4. A Decade Of Impact: Aum Foundation Celebrates 10 Years Of Bollywood Night (huntsvillebusinessjournal.com) — Huntsville residents are invited to Aum Foundation's 10th Annual Bollywood Night on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2026, at the Von Braun Center, supporting scholarships and mentoring for young women across North Alabama. The Huntsville-founded nonprofit has already helped more than 450 students boost test scores, secure scholarships, and explore careers, and is seeking local sponsors and attendees to fuel its next decade of impact.
5. Para-cycling championships bring 49 nations, millions in revenue to Huntsville (whnt.com) — Huntsville is hosting the UCI Para-cycling Road World Championships this Labor Day weekend, bringing nearly 400 athletes from 49 nations, millions in projected revenue, and several road closures around Cummings Research Park. Events run through Monday, are free to attend, and city leaders are urging residents to come out, cheer on athletes, and plan travel around the temporary street shutdowns.
