City officials and the police chief describe heavy overtime, strict hiring standards, pay-scale concerns, and a new $122,000 recruiting contract as they work to attract and retain qualified officers without lowering expectations.

• 90+ Colorado Springs leaders to visit Huntsville for U.S. Space Command meeting (waff.com) — More than 90 Colorado Springs leaders are in Huntsville today to meet Mayor Tommy Battle and other North Alabama officials as U.S. Space Command prepares to move its headquarters to Redstone Arsenal. They'll hold a 4:30 p.m. news conference at Davidson Technologies and spend three days here exchanging ideas. Local residents can watch coverage on WAFF's evening newscasts.
