Mobile to host community workshop on Downtown Development District update (mynbc15.com) β City leaders are asking Mobile residents to help shape the future of downtown by weighing in on updates to the Downtown Development District code at a public workshop on September 2. The meeting at the National Maritime Museum will feature small-group discussions on building design, permitted uses, and approval processes, with feedback guiding changes before they reach the Planning Commission and City Council.

MAWSS set to complete latest phase of sewer overflow mitigation project (fox10tv.com) β Mobile's water utility is wrapping up a major sewer overflow mitigation project featuring massive storage tanks near Eslava Creek, designed to keep wastewater out of local creeks and rivers. MAWSS leaders say the $36 million phase, part of a broader $74 million effort, should come fully online later this year and has already reduced sanitary sewer overflows in key Mobile basins.

Missouri students get hands-on marine science training at Dauphin Island Sea Lab (utv44.com) β Students from Missouri are on the Gulf Coast working with Dauphin Island Sea Lab scientists and a University of South Alabama professor to practice real-world marine research. Their time in coastal waters near Mobile is designed to spark interest in science careers, while showing how Midwestern rivers ultimately connect to the Gulf these students are now studying firsthand.

4. Mobile man who fled to Arkansas after shooting pleads guilty to murder (fox10tv.com) β A Mobile man has pleaded guilty to a 2020 murder and received a 20-year sentence in Mobile County Circuit Court, with additional charges dismissed under a plea deal. Investigators linked him to a body found near Dog River in Theodore, and he'll receive credit for time already served in Arkansas and Mobile County Metro Jail.
