Today's riddle: What did the tree say when Spring arrived? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. City of Mobile opens Senior Center in Hillsdale community (wkrg.com) — Mobile seniors in the Hillsdale community now have a dedicated, newly renovated senior center of their own, honoring longtime community leader John E. King. City of Mobile officials and Parks and Rec partnered to create a space with crafts areas, food prep, and gathering rooms so older residents no longer have to share the busy Hillsdale Community Center with kids.
2. West Nile virus confirmed in Mobile County (al.com) — West Nile virus has been confirmed in Mobile County after a sentinel chicken in the 36613 ZIP code, near Chickasabogue Park, tested positive, prompting increased mosquito-control efforts. Health officials urge residents to protect themselves from mosquito bites, noting that late summer through the first fall freeze carries the highest risk and that, while many infections are mild, rare cases can cause severe neurological illness.
3. State Representative wants locals to name new I-10 Mobile River Bridge (wkrg.com) — Mobile County residents are being asked to help choose a name for the new I-10 Mobile River Bridge, and Rep. Barbara Drummond says she won't back any naming resolution without broad local input. She's personally suggesting Mobile native and baseball legend Hank Aaron, but emphasizes the bridge should reflect the community's shared history and pride.
4. Fourth high-speed chase in a week in Mobile area (fox10tv.com) — Mobile police and the Mobile County Sheriff's Office have been involved in four high-speed pursuits around the Mobile area in just one week, including a new chase ending near Maitre Park. Recent incidents tied to alleged drug trafficking and a juvenile driver have sparked debate over pursuit policies as officers weigh catching suspects against public safety on local roads.
5. Judge sentences 2 men on Glock switch charges in Mobile, including 1 who mocked shooting victim (fox10tv.com) — A federal judge in Mobile has sentenced two men to just over a year in prison for possessing illegal Glock switches shortly after two Joe Cain Day–related shootings downtown. Mobile police, already on high alert after those Dauphin and Joachim-Conti incidents, later arrested one man who appeared in a video mocking the shooting victim, and a third defendant's sentencing was postponed.
