With work expected to start soon, Mobile drivers and port-dependent businesses should prepare for a massive, toll-funded overhaul of their main east–west interstate route.
2. Mobile police offer $2,500 reward in unsolved Rickarby Street shootings (wkrg.com) — Mobile residents near Rickarby Street are being urged to share any information they have about two recent shootings, as police are offering a $2,500 reward for tips leading to an arrest and conviction. Officers are heavily patrolling the 500 block near Rickarby Park and stress that even small, anonymous tips could help solve the cases and support the recovering victim.
3. Prichard's money questions grow ahead of vote (mynbc15.com) — Prichard's City Council is racing toward a Monday vote on a nearly $22 million 2027 budget while also weighing a possible deal with the Mobile County Commission to keep the Sheriff's Office policing the city. With questions about spending cuts, a potential sales tax hike, and whether to rebuild Prichard's own police department, the outcome will directly affect public safety and services for nearby Mobile-area residents.
4. Former engineer convicted of misdemeanor in fatal train wreck in Prichard (fox10tv.com) — A Mobile County jury has convicted former train engineer Jamie Elder of criminally negligent homicide, a misdemeanor, for a 2020 fatal train wreck at Blount Curve that killed worker Dexter Scott. The verdict in Mobile means Elder now faces up to one year in jail when he's sentenced November 9, after jurors decided his distracted conduct was negligent rather than reckless.
5. Jared Hollins wins first career start as Jags run their way 41-36 win over Ohio (fox10tv.com) — Football fans in Mobile saw South Alabama's Jared Hollins win his first career start at home, leading the Jags to a 41-36 victory over Ohio with 192 passing yards and a strong ground game. Despite late defensive lapses, the team improved to 2-1 and now turns its attention to a challenging road trip to Kentucky.
