Today's riddle: How do billboards talk? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Hurricane Isaias lashes the US Gulf Coast with wind and rain as it nears the Florida Panhandle (newser.com) — Mobile residents are under a nighttime curfew as Hurricane Isaias nears the Gulf Coast, bringing dangerous winds, heavy rain, and the threat of storm surge across southern Alabama and the Florida Panhandle. Forecasters expect landfall near Pensacola, but warn that coastal Alabama, including Mobile, could see flooding, power outages, and travel disruptions as the storm moves inland this weekend.
2. President Trump approves federal disaster assistance for Gulf Coast amid Hurricane Isaias (mypanhandle.com) — Mobile County is now under a federal emergency declaration as Hurricane Isaias approaches, unlocking disaster assistance and faster federal support for local response. The order, requested by Gov. Kay Ivey and approved by President Trump, also covers Baldwin and Escambia counties and the Poarch Band of Creek Indians, helping coastal communities prepare for potential wind, flooding, and storm surge impacts.
3. Hurricane Isaias makes landfall, hammering US Gulf Coast with powerful winds and dangerous flooding (newser.com) — Mobile officials are reporting flooded areas, downed trees and power lines, and have imposed a curfew through Saturday morning as Hurricane Isaias batters the Gulf Coast. The storm brought 105 mph winds at landfall near Destin, closed regional airports and even Waffle Houses, and is expected to dump several more inches of rain across southern Alabama as it weakens inland.
4. Isaias Makes Landfall in Florida (newser.com) — Mobile residents are dealing with flooding, downed trees and power lines, and a citywide curfew after Hurricane Isaias slammed into the Gulf Coast as a Category 2 storm. The hurricane knocked out power for hundreds of thousands across Alabama and Florida, pushed dangerous storm surge toward nearby beaches, and is expected to bring several more inches of rain inland through the weekend.
5. Cenla missing person report leads to arrest of Colorado fugitive wanted in 2017 sex crime case (kalb.com) — A Colorado fugitive wanted in a 2017 sex crime case was ultimately tracked to coastal Alabama and arrested, then booked into the Mobile County jail to await extradition. Investigators from Louisiana, Florida, Virginia, Colorado and the Mobile County Sheriff's Office coordinated after a missing-person case revealed the man's true identity and long‑standing warrant.
