Today's riddle: What do you call a belt that is made of watches? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Montevallo delays alcohol cutoff proposal after residents push back (abc3340.com) — Montevallo's City Council has hit pause on proposed earlier cutoffs for late-night alcohol sales after residents and business owners warned of economic impacts and fairness concerns. Over the next several months, city leaders will gather police data, review a safety plan from the bar tied to a recent downtown altercation, and could bring back revised rules sooner if another serious incident occurs.
2. 2 Alabama schools among best value colleges in the country (thebamabuzz.com) — Students and families in Montevallo can take pride that the University of Montevallo has again been named Alabama's top regional university for best value, ranking sixth among Southern regional universities nationwide. Alongside Samford's statewide recognition, the new U.S. News & World Report rankings underscore that local students don't have to leave central Alabama to find nationally respected, cost-conscious options.
3. Public safety heroes honored at annual Shelby County awards ... (shelbycountyreporter.com) — Montevallo residents can take pride that Police Chief Todd Burr honored Corporal Kenton Reedy for safely resolving a June welfare call involving a person threatening to jump from a bridge. At a countywide awards luncheon in Pelham, Reedy and other Shelby County officers and firefighters were recognized for lifesaving actions, school safety work, and long-term support for crime victims across nearby communities.
4. Alabama public four-year college enrollment nearly flat, preliminary numbers show (aldailynews.com) — If you're connected to the University of Montevallo, be aware undergraduate enrollment there is down about 8% this fall, even as overall enrollment at Alabama's public four-year colleges is nearly flat. State higher education officials say schools, including Montevallo, will increasingly need to recruit older and returning students as the pool of traditional high school graduates shrinks nationwide.
