1. Georgia man sentenced to 5 years for stolen U.S. Treasury checks in Montgomery (wsfa.com) — A Georgia man has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for cashing stolen U.S. Treasury checks at Montgomery post offices and leading police on a 125-mph chase through local neighborhoods and the interstate. Prosecutors say he and an accomplice used fake IDs to cash four checks and attempt 10 more, and both must repay over $14,000 in restitution.
2. 18-year-old's body recovered from the waters of Corn Creek Park in Wetumpka (waka.com) — Montgomery readers are mourning an 18-year-old Faulkner University freshman and football player whose body was recovered Sunday morning from Corn Creek Park in Wetumpka. Local agencies, including Montgomery Fire & Rescue and Montgomery Police, joined Elmore County teams in an extensive search after he disappeared underwater Saturday, while the university is offering counseling and ministry support to students and staff.
3. Mar-Jac Poultry AL, LLC (alabama.gov) — Montgomery-based state environmental regulators are proposing a $75,000 consent order and corrective plan for Mar-Jac Poultry's wastewater violations at its Jasper plant. Residents can submit written comments or request a hearing within 30 days to ADEM's Water Division office at its Montgomery mailing address.
4. See how much home prices rose in Montgomery County recently (montgomeryadvertiser.com) — Home prices in Montgomery County jumped sharply in May, with the median sale hitting $230,000, up more than 26% from April. While prices match last May's level, total sales volume and a comparison to statewide Alabama trends show how competitive the local market has become.
