Federal, bipartisan legislation promotes earlier screening of colorectal cancer (wsfa.com) — Montgomery Cancer Center leaders say a new bipartisan U.S. Senate bill could boost early colorectal cancer screening for younger Alabamians, as cases rise among people 20 to 49. Speaking from Montgomery, oncology vice president Susan Reed stresses that earlier detection saves lives and urges residents to start screening by age 45 or earlier if they have risk factors.
5. 'Phones ringing off the hook': Dolly Parton's Imagination Library sees increased interest in River Region (wsfa.com) — Families across the River Region, including Montgomery County, are rushing to sign up young children for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, flooding River Region United Way with new enrollments. The free program mails one book a month to kids from birth to age five and has expanded locally since 2022, with Gov. Kay Ivey backing its growth statewide.
