• Montgomery City Council approves new short-term rental ordinance (wsfa.com) — Montgomery's City Council has just approved new rules for short-term rentals like Airbnbs and VRBOs, responding to neighborhood complaints about loud parties, parking, and overcrowding. Existing hosts will have 90 days to get individual business licenses and bring their properties into compliance, as officials aim to balance neighborhood peace with responsible rental operators.
• Governor Ivey Honors Alabama Workers in Labor Day Message (alabama.gov) — Governor Kay Ivey's Labor Day video message comes straight from Montgomery, saluting the workers whose efforts power Alabama's farms, factories, classrooms, and construction sites. She thanks Alabamians for their daily contributions and encourages residents to take pride in the state's strong work ethic this holiday weekend.
• Lawmakers approve $8.5 million contract to crack down on food assistance fraud (wsfa.com) — From Montgomery, state lawmakers have approved an $8.5 million contract to help Alabama crack down on SNAP and EBT fraud, aiming to protect benefits from theft and misuse. The deal with Conduent will support the Department of Human Resources as it also works to lower SNAP payment error rates and avoid future federal penalties.
