2. Alabama Second Dispensary Opens To Expand Patient Access (nugmag.com) — Montgomery's Callie's Apothecary medical cannabis dispensary, open since June, has already served more than 800 patients and logged over 1,300 transactions, signaling strong local demand. With a second location now open in Talladega and more dispensaries planned statewide, Montgomery patients should see growing options and potentially easier access as Alabama's tightly regulated medical cannabis program expands.
   

3. Outdoor Alabama Photo Contest now open (cullmantribune.com) — Montgomery residents can enter the 2027 Outdoor Alabama Photo Contest now through October 30, with winning shots later touring the state. Right now, you can also visit a free retrospective of past contest winners at the Georgine Clarke Alabama Artists Gallery downtown through September 25, plus see this year's exhibit in Pelham until September 16.
   

4. ASU blanks Lane College in 34-0 victory (wsfa.com) — Alabama State football rewarded hometown fans in Montgomery with a dominant 34-0 shutout of Lane College, improving the Hornets to 2-0. Quarterback Andrew Body led a balanced offense while the defense held Lane under 200 total yards, giving local supporters momentum to follow as ASU heads to Troy for Week 3.
   

5. Alabama literacy leaders question whether teacher shortages are leaving students behind (abc3340.com) — Education leaders meeting in Montgomery are warning that Alabama's push to improve children's reading may be stalling, partly due to teacher shortages and uneven training. They're pressing for better data on which students are struggling, how well teachers are prepared in the science of reading, and whether funding for literacy support beyond third grade will be sustained.
