1. New York man, 2 companies agree to $1M settlement over false claims in Alabama (wsfa.com) — A federal false-claims case tied to defense-related products has resulted in a $1 million settlement unsealed in Montgomery's federal court, involving a New York man and two companies. Officials say the firms allegedly supplied Chinese-made parts for U.S. government purchases while falsely certifying they met federal sourcing rules, though the claims have not been proven in court.
2. FAMU football upsets Alabama State on the road, 28-27, blocks field goal as time expires (wctv.tv) — Alabama State fans in Montgomery saw a heartbreaking homecoming finish as Florida A&M blocked a last-second 47-yard field goal to escape with a 28–27 win. Despite leading by 10 entering the fourth quarter, the Hornets surrendered two long touchdown passes and a two-point conversion before their final drive came up one play short.
3. Baldwin County SNAP, TANF recipients could see new state system in 2027 (gulfcoastmedia.com) — Montgomery County residents on SNAP or TANF are part of Alabama's pilot for a new online eligibility system that could eventually streamline how you apply for and manage benefits. The Alabama Combined Eligibility System is being tested now in Montgomery and four other counties, with a full statewide launch tentatively planned for January 2027 if all goes well.
4. WATCH: New Selma police chief welcomed with ceremony (waka.com) — Selma's new police chief, Ettice Brickus, is bringing experience Montgomery residents may recognize from her time as chief of staff at the Montgomery Police Department. She was formally welcomed in a public ceremony and becomes Selma's first permanent Black female chief, drawing on a long career in patrol, investigations, and police administration across several major cities.
