Highlands School Receives $500K Grant

The Hugh Kaul Foundation has awarded a grant to the Highlands School in the amount of $500,000.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - The Highlands School, one of the Birmingham area's best private schools, received good news on the fundraising front as the Hugh Kaul Foundation awarded the school a $500,000 grant.

This grant puts the school closer to its $5 million 60th Anniversary Capital Campaign goal. The campaign will include a new student life center, four new flexible classrooms, a new dining hall with a full-service kitchen, an air-conditioned gym and an outdoor classroom, according to a report by the Birmingham Business Journal. Other classrooms and areas on campus will be modernized to incorporate 21st century learning. All 23 classrooms on campus will be updated with dynamic furniture, equipment and fixtures designed to support optimal student learning.

The Hugh Kaul Foundation supports cultural, educational and civic efforts in Birmingham as well as Coosa and Clay counties. The foundation’s giving has reached more than $70 million since it was created by business leader and philanthropist Hugh Kaul in 1989.
