Mountain Brook BOE Recognizes Students For Achievements

Several students were recognized by the Mountain Brook Board of Education for a variety of achievements in the last month.

MOUNTAIN BROOK, AL - The Mountain Brook Board of Education recognized several students from both the high school and junior high at last week's board meeting, including participants in the Southeast Scholastic Arts and Writing Competition, and members of both schools' dance teams.

The students honored for their writing prowess in the regional competition entered submissions that were judged by a national panel, some of whom are past award recipients. Panelists looked for works that best exemplify originality, technical skill, and the emergence of a personal voice or vision. The MBJH students were:

  • Amy Elizabeth Hudson - Gold Key in science fiction and fantasy
  • Hunter Anderson - Silver Key in flash fiction; Silver Key in personal essay and memoir; Honorable Mention in flash fiction
  • Meg Dobbins - Honorable Mention in personal essay and memoir
  • Lilly Lejeune - Honorable Mention in short story
  • Kate Ryan - Honorable Mention in short story

The junior high dance team, the Spartanettes, were honored after they performed in the UDA Magic City Dance Championship. The team had its best showing to date and came home with the the title of Best Audience Appeal for the junior high division.

At the high school level, after winning the regional competition this year, the Dorians continued on to Orlando, Florida, to compete in nationals. There, they earned 11th place. More information on the competition can be found in Village Living.
