Mountain Brook Police Investigate Another Possible School Threat
The Mountain Brook Police Department had to investigate a possible threat at the junior high school Monday.

MOUNTAIN BROOK, AL - For the second time in as many weeks, the Mountain Brook Police Department had to investigate a possible threat in one of the Mountain Brook Schools. This has been a common occurrence throughout the state since the February 14 mass shooting in Parkland, Florida. Last week, police investigated a possible threat at Mountain Brook High School, but the threat turned out to be a mere misunderstanding, as explained by MBPD Chief Ted Cook.
Monday morning, Cook had to answer again about a police investigation into a school:
"This morning school officials and one of our School Resource Officers were made aware social media post were made over the weekend that could be perceived as a threat," Cook said in a statement. "School officials and the SRO immediately took action, securing the student and beginning the investigation of this incident."

Cook added, "The safety of our students, faculty and parents are always of the utmost concern for both the MBPD and School Officials. There is no immediate threat to students or faculty. School officials are taking the proper steps with the student within their protocols. MBPD continues to investigate. MBPD detectives have consulted with Family Court, who has jurisdiction over most juvenile crime issues."
Cook said the the MBPD and school officials will take every perceived threat to students and faculty seriously. "We will fully investigate any such occurrence and prosecute those instances when appropriate," Cook said.
