Mountain Brook Superintendent Looks To Enhance Safety At Schools
Mountain Brook Schools superintendent Dicky Barlow addressed school safety issues with the city council.

MOUNTAIN BROOK, AL - Mountain Brook Schools superintendent Dr. Dicky Barlow addressed safety concerns with the Mountain Brook City Council last week amidst the February school shooting in Parkland, Florida, and subsequent threats that have occurred in some of the schools in the aftermath.
Barlow told the council the school system currently uses two Student Resource Officers, but would like to increase the presence of SROs and have one at each school. While not the ideal situation, Barlow said taking this measure is in the interest of safety for all students and personnel of the system.
According to a report by Village Living, there is no set date for the additional SROs to be hired, but Barlow and Mountain Brook Police Chief Ted Cook agreed to have increased police presence at the schools, which has been the norm in the last several weeks.

Barlow said in addition to improving locking systems and alarms at schools, most school personnel are also updating training and procedures for staff and students.
“There are some things we are in the process of changing based on what has happened in Florida now,” he said.
