• Man and woman died in murder-suicide at west Huntsville apartment, police say (wkrg.com) — A 22-year-old woman from Roanoke Synquavia Keyona Staples, was found dead alongside a Huntsville man in what police say was a murder-suicide at a west Huntsville apartment complex Sunday night. Huntsville Police are investigating through their Major Crimes Unit and have not released which person committed the killing as they continue gathering details.
• Mike Smith Memorial Race Set for October 7-11 (dragchamp.com) — A beloved Roanoke racer and firefighter, Mike Smith, will be honored at the 6th Annual Mike Smith Memorial Race in Montgomery from October 7–11. Local readers who knew Mike or enjoy drag racing can join five days of big-money bracket events, including triple $20,000 main races, Duck Races, and a warm-up night celebrating his legacy.
