• After 4 years without a budget, Tarrant is finally ready to approve one (al.com) — Tarrant leaders are finally poised to approve an $11 million city budget after four years without an official spending plan, with a council vote expected next week. Mayor Tracie Threadford says the proposal protects jobs, prioritizes road and drainage improvements, and reflects public input, while relying on major local employers like Thompson Tractor, ABC Coke, and Vulcan Materials to anchor city revenues.
• Advocates resist move to end desegregation oversight in Alabama schools (al.com) — Tarrant schools were recently released from long-running federal desegregation oversight, even as civil rights lawyers argue many Alabama districts still haven't achieved true integration. Advocates say remaining cases statewide, including in nearby systems, are vital tools to protect Black students' access to fair discipline, transportation, and educational opportunities.
