Simpson, a former five-star recruit and native of Martin, Tennessee, joins names like Bryce Young, Tua Tagovailoa and Mac Jones as 21st century Tide quarterbacks taken in the first round.

He will now compete to be the heir apparent to 2025 NFL Most Valuable Player and Super Bowl champion quarterback Matthew Stafford.

Before After shocking NFL Draft prognosticators Thursday, Simpson threw for 3,567 yards and 28 touchdowns while completing more than 64% of his passes during his final season at the Capstone.

Most notably, Simpson threw just five interceptions across 473 attempts during his final season and finished his career with an Alabama-record interception percentage under 1% .

His performance earned him second-team All-SEC honors, along with national recognition as a semifinalist for the Davey O’Brien Award and the Maxwell Award.

After limited action early in his career, Simpson stuck it out in Tuscaloosa to win the starting job and delivered one of the most productive single seasons by a quarterback at Alabama, ranking among the program’s top five in passing yards.
