The Tuscaloosa Police Department confirmed to Patch that an investigator was contacted Sunday regarding a domestic dispute involving University of Alabama student Ryan Jeffery DellaFranco, 20, and a 19-year-old woman.

TPD said the incident occurred at residences in the 1400 block of Eighth Street and the 500 block of Red Drew Avenue.

Both individuals and a witness provided statements to investigators, though no arrests were made at the time.

TPD then said that on Tuesday the investigator obtained a warrant charging DellaFranco with third-degree domestic violence/assault.

DellaFranco later turned himself in at Tuscaloosa Police headquarters and was released after his bond on the misdemeanor charge was set at $500.

While few specifics have been released, TPD said that on Monday, after the dispute was reported but before his arrest, DellaFranco contacted police to report that a family member of the woman had come to his home and made threats to harm him.

Officers responded and spoke with both men, but no arrests were made in that incident.

TPD’s Criminal Investigations Division is continuing to investigate both incidents, and additional charges are possible.

The West Alabama INTERCEPT Task Force is also assisting in the investigation related to the domestic dispute case.

In the wake of the initial report, video began circulating on social media showing hundreds of young people gathered around a residence as police entered.

The incident purportedly involved the previously mentioned suspect and has since gone viral — particularly regarding his connections to the Theta Chi fraternity at UA.

This is a developing story. Tuscaloosa Patch will have more information as it becomes available.
