NORTHPORT, AL — The City of Northport was recently honored for the quality of its drinking water operations when receiving a top honor from the Alabama/Mississippi Section of the American Water Works Association.

The city on Thursday announced that Northport’s Water Treatment Facility was named the 2025 Water Treatment Plant of the Year Award winner in the Surface Water Small category, recognizing outstanding performance among water systems across Alabama.
The award honors treatment facilities that demonstrate excellence in providing safe, high-quality drinking water while maintaining strong operational standards, effective maintenance programs and innovative approaches to plant management.
The association says the recognition also considers employee training programs and efforts to minimize public health hazards.
“This award reflects the City’s commitment to providing reliable, clean drinking water for our customers,” Northport Director of Utilities John Powell Webb said. “Receiving this award is truly an honor.”
The award was presented during the Alabama/Mississippi Joint Water Conference held April 13 at the Mobile Convention Center.
