As Patch previously reported, investigators said Doss was leaving work when she was shot in the hospital parking lot during what authorities described as a random act of violence during an attempted robbery.

Doss' killer, 41-year-old Matthew James Taylor, has been charged with capital murder and is being held at the Tuscaloosa County Jail without bond.

Doss graduated from Tuscaloosa County High School in 2017 before earning her nursing degree from Shelton State Community College in 2020.

Her obituary through Tuscaloosa Memorial Park and Chapel says she worked throughout her career in healthcare and most recently served as a case manager while pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree at The University of Alabama.

Doss was described as having a “caring spirit and servant’s heart,” while also noted for her love of helping others professionally. Still, her obituary says her greatest joy was being a wife and mother to her two daughters.

Doss is survived by her husband, Andrew Doss; daughters Maya Rae and Abigail “Abby” Blake; her parents, Charles Wayne and Jacqueline Ann Chapman; Sandra Harbin Chapman; sister Emily Smith; grandparents George Harbin and Ramona Chapman; great-grandmother Martha Kinard; and numerous extended family members and friends.

A visitation and memorial service will be held Saturday, May 23, at 10 a.m. at Englewood Baptist Church, located at 9700 Old Greensboro Road in Tuscaloosa.

Pallbearers will include Caleb Herndon, Jeremy Tisdale, Gray Tisdale, Mark Harbin, Conner Harbin, Ian McKee, Will Chesser and Tyler Gilliland.

Members of the Over the Hills Hunting Club will serve as honorary pallbearers.

“Though Ada’s life was far too short, the love she gave and the lives she touched will continue to carry her memory forward,” the obituary reads. “She will be deeply missed and forever loved."
