NORTHPORT, AL — Investigators confirm one person was killed Wednesday night in what is being described as a workplace accident at a lumber mill in northern Tuscaloosa County.

Captain Jack Kennedy, commander of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, told Patch that investigators responded around 7 p.m. Wednesday evening to the call that appeared to be a fatal accident involving workplace machinery at W.G. Sullivan Lumber Co. on Highway 171.
An employee had reportedly been severely injured and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Kennedy then said the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences will be conducting an autopsy, while VCU will handle the death investigation.
The circumstances of the accident are unclear as of the publication of this story.
"We will not identify the victim as it is non-criminal," Kennedy said.
