NORTHPORT, AL — Tuscaloosa County officials are gearing up to commemorate the nation's upcoming 250th anniversary with a special semiquincentennial celebration and Liberty Tree dedication on Wednesday in Northport.

The event, hosted by the Tuscaloosa County 250 Committee in partnership with the Tuscaloosa County Commission, is scheduled for 11 a.m. June 17 at the county's Synergic Center, located at 3650 Fifth Street in Northport.
The free public event will feature historical exhibits, remarks from local officials and the dedication of a Princeton Elm known as the Liberty Tree.
The tree was provided through Alabama's statewide America 250 initiative as part of efforts to commemorate the nation's 250th birthday in 2026.
Organizers said the Liberty Tree serves as a symbol of the American Revolution.
County officials said that during the colonial era, Liberty Trees became gathering places where patriots met to discuss resistance to British rule and advocate for independence.
The celebration will also highlight the Synergic Center's role in preserving and promoting local history.
Visitors will have an opportunity to explore interactive exhibits focused on West Alabama's heritage, as well as the Freedom Shrine sponsored by the Exchange Club of Tuscaloosa.
The Tuscaloosa County 250 Committee was established in September after receiving authorization from the Tuscaloosa County Commission to coordinate local semiquincentennial activities.
The committee includes representatives from local governments, educational institutions, historical organizations and community groups working together to recognize the nation's 250th anniversary.
