The Pickens County Sheriff's Office says the investigation began July 7 after a minor victim came to the sheriff's office to report ongoing sexual abuse that allegedly occurred over a period of several years.

The sheriff's office, working with the 24th Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office, immediately launched an investigation that resulted in the arrest of 74-year-old Jessie Bonner.

Jail records show Bonner was booked into the Pickens County Jail and is being held without bond.

Bonner faces one count of first-degree human trafficking, two counts of second-degree sodomy, four counts of second-degree sexual abuse and five counts of sexual abuse of a child younger than 12.

"I am extremely proud of the men and women who worked tirelessly and diligently to investigate this case and seek justice for the victim," Pickens County Sheriff Jordan Powell said in a statement. "I am equally proud of the victim for having the courage to come forward after enduring years of abuse. Their bravery made it possible to pursue accountability through the criminal justice system."

No additional details about the alleged offenses or the investigation were immediately released.
