TUSCALOOSA, AL — Historic Tuscaloosa is seeking volunteers to help preserve one of the city's best-known historic landmarks during its annual Battle-Friedman House Volunteer Workday next month.

The volunteer event will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at the Battle-Friedman House & Gardens, which is located in downtown Tuscaloosa at 1010 Greensboro Avenue.
Historic Tuscaloosa says the annual workday will bring together community members to assist with maintenance and preservation projects at the historic property.
Organizers also said volunteers of all ages and experience levels are welcome to participate.
Historic Tuscaloosa operates and maintains five historic properties across Tuscaloosa County, and says volunteer workdays help keep the sites clean, accessible and welcoming for visitors.
Past volunteer projects have included landscaping, brush clearing, debris removal, fence repairs and installation, tree planting, painting, trail construction and maintenance, and the installation of interpretive signs and historical markers.
This year's projects will focus on the continued care and maintenance of the Battle-Friedman House and its grounds.
No previous volunteer experience is required, with Historic Tuscaloosa staff providing project assignments and guidance throughout the event.
The organization will supply tools, gloves and other materials, along with water and light refreshments.
Volunteers are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes appropriate for outdoor work.
"Our volunteers are an essential part of Historic Tuscaloosa's mission," Historic Tuscaloosa Executive Director William Hawkins said. "Their dedication helps us preserve these irreplaceable places while creating opportunities for the community to connect with Tuscaloosa's rich history."
Volunteers may arrive at any time between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. and are welcome to stay for all or part of the event.
